SKOPJE, Macedonia (AP) -- A criminal court in Skopje has ruled that a journalist convicted and sentenced to jail for revealing the identity of a protected witness can be released on probation until his sentence expires in June.
Tomislav Kezarovski, 49, was sentenced in October 2013 to 4? years for revealing the identity of a murder case witness in a 2008 magazine article.
He served most of his sentence under house arrest. An appeals court upheld his conviction last Friday but cut his sentence to two years, and ordered the remainder be served in jail. He was jailed later that day, sparking outrage among local and international media organizations.
Kezarovski was released Tuesday on unspecified health grounds.
The reporter will now be on probation until his sentence officially expires in June 27.
