Results of British inquiry into Iraq war delayed until after election

Iraq war inquiry report delayed until after election

LONDON (AP) -- Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is complaining that the long-awaited results of an inquiry into Britain's role in the Iraq war will again be delayed -- six years after the inquiry began.

The panel's chair, John Chilcot, is expected to reveal his reasoning Wednesday in an exchange of letters with Prime Minister David Cameron.

In a letter to Chilcot, Clegg says that when then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown established the inquiry in 2009, it was planned to be completed within a year. He says there is a danger the public will assume the report's conclusions will be muted by individuals responding to criticisms of their roles.
