VietJet Air sees good prospects for growth in Taiwan

Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) VietJet Air (????), a budget airline from Vietnam, said Wednesday that it has had good results since launching its maiden flight to Taipei in December 2014 and revealed plans to recruit Chinese-speaking flight attendants in Taiwan this year. VietJet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said the average load factor on its route between Ho Chi Minh City and Taipei was 80 percent during the past month. The budget carrier currently operates five round-trip flights per week between the two destinations and is likely to increase that number to seven starting this summer, she said. The airline is planning to open a new route between Hanoi and Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan and recruit Chinese-speaking flight attendants from Taiwan and China, she said. Vietjet is also looking for Korean-speaking flight attendants in South Korea, she said, but added that the airline had yet to finalize when and how many new people it would recruit.
The airline, which flies eight international routes out of Vietnam and 20 domestic routes, said its performance outside Taiwan has also been impressive. VietJet had carried 10 million passengers as of mid-January since starting operations at the end of 2011, and it expects accumulated passenger volume to reach 20 million by the end of 2015, she said. There are 16 low-cost carriers operating in Taiwan. (By Wang Shu-fen and Lee Hsin-Yin)
