China confirms Taiwan affairs chief's February Kinmen visit

Beijing, Jan. 21 (CNA) China's Taiwan Affairs Office confirmed Wednesday that office head Zhang Zhijun (???) will visit Kinmen, a Taiwan-controlled island group, in early February. The office and Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council are working on the schedule of Zhang's visit, office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang (???) said in a written reply to questions from reporters about the Taiwan side's invitation for Zhang's visit. Ma also said there will be a press release if there is any further information on the matter. Earlier in the day in Taipei, Mainland Affairs Council Minister Wang Yu-chi (???) said Zhang's schedule for his Kinmen visit is almost certain and that he will meet him there. During the meeting, he will convey the Taiwanese government's firm stance that it will not accept China's plan to open the new north-south passenger flight route M503, which hugs the median line of the Taiwan Strait, and three east-west routes -- W121, W122 and W123 -- that connect with it, and to begin using them from March 5. He will also discuss with Zhang other issues related to cross-border fishing practices of Chinese fishermen, seaborne garbage originating in China and sea-sand quarrying by the Chinese.
