Innovation Park okayed for Yuanshan Expo venue

The International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park under the National Development Council will set up operations in the Yuanshan Expo area of Taipei following discussions between NDC Chairman Kuan Chung-ming and Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je Tuesday evening. Kuan expressed his appreciation to Ko and the Taipei City Government for agreeing to let the park use the Expo facilities, noting that the city’s response to the NDC request was "swift and decisive."

Kuan explained that there are already a number of innovative start-up companies operating in the vicinity of the site, which hosted the Taipei Flora Expo in 2010 and 2011. He noted the Expo Dome can be used as a convention and exhibition venue for events of various sizes, and the location near MRT Yuanshan Station and the Yuanshan area make it ideal for holding many different kinds of activities.

Kuan added that Taipei Expo Park Hall will be ready for use with a minimum of renovation and offers very reasonable rental rates that will significantly reduce costs for new entrepreneurs.

The NDC’s preliminary plans call for using the B1 to fifth-floor levels on the west side of the Expo Park Hall, occupying a total floor area of about 2900 ping. Kuan said the area should be fully occupied before the end of the year.

The NDC and the Bureau of Urban Development of the Taipei City Government will continue to explore other opportunities for cooperation in the future such as how to take advantage of other under-utilized land and improvements in the Expo area.
