Taipei's sports head announces resignation (update)

Taipei, Jan. 19 (CNA) Jongher Yang (???), the head of Taipei's Department of Sports, announced his resignation from the post after meeting with Mayor Ko Wen-je (???) Monday.
Yang became the first ranking official to resign from Ko's team since it was inaugurated on Dec. 25. The mayor respected Yang's decision, a Taipei spokesman said. A local newspaper recently reported Yang's intention to resign, but he dismissed the speculation. Ko said Sunday in an interview in Tainan that the sports department has been under a lot of pressure in preparing for the 2017 World University Games (Universiade), which Taipei will host, and building the athletes village.
The 63-year-old has served as a professor and as head of the Sports Affairs Council (which later became the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education). (By Ku Chuan and Lilian Wu)
