Couple survives 90-meter fall into valley

Taipei, Jan. 19 (CNA) A couple driving on the Suhua Highway in eastern Taiwan on Monday survived a car crash in which they fell into a 90-meter-deep valley. A man surnamed Wu was driving his van in a southbound direction near Suao Township in Yilan County when the van sideswiped a mobile crane coming from the opposite direction and fell into the valley. Wu said he and his wife then took 10 minutes to climb up a hill before being rescued by a rescue team and taken to a hospital. The two only suffered minor head injuries and were discharged from the hospital after being treated. "It's great to be alive, and we should buy lottery tickets," said his wife, joking that they could take part in Jackie Chan's Kung Fu movies. (By Shen Ju-feng and Lee Hsin-Yin)
