Taipei Dome contract 'absurd': mayor

Taipei, Jan. 17 (CNA) Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je decried on Saturday a contract signed by the city government with the builder of the Taipei Dome as "too absurd" after he was unable to find a way to seek compensation from the company for lagging behind schedule. Ko said the multi-use stadium, designated as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2017 Universiade in Taipei, was supposed to have been completed by June 2014. The Farglory Group, which was contracted to build the facility, postponed the completion date by six months until December but still could not finish the work by then, he said. Though Farglory has violated the terms of the contract, there is no clause in the document stipulating a punishment for the builder, according to the mayor. Ko said he has asked the city government's Department of Legal Affairs to examine the contract, which was signed while former Mayor Hau Lung-bin was in office, to see if there was a way to seek compensation.
