Two men shot dead 'execution style' in Ximending parking lot

Taipei, Jan. 13 (CNA) Two men were shot dead at a parking lot in Ximending Tuesday, Taipei police said. An employee of the Emei parking structure in the fashionable pedestrian district found blood on a car parked on the top floor at around 2 p.m. and alerted emergency responders, police said. When firefighters arrived, they found the bodies of two men, identified as cousins surnamed Tsai from Taichung, stacked on top of one another in the back seat, police said. The parking lot attendant reportedly did not hear the sound of shots being fired. Police said they found six 9-mm bullet casings next each other at the scene, indicating the killer carried out an "execution-style" shooting at close range. Authorities have determined one man was in the car and the other was outside when they were shot. There were bullet holes in the car.
Surveillance video showed that the victims' car arriving at the top floor of the parking structure at 11:40 a.m. It was not immediately clear if the shooting was caught on tape. Police suspect that the killer arrived in the same car as the victims and left by foot after committing the crime. One victim was 21 years old and the other 24, and neither of them had any known involvement in gangs or criminal records. The owner of the vehicle, which media identified as the mother of one of the victims, said the cousins were heading to Taipei for fun. As of 10:00 p.m., police were still working on tracking down the killer. (By Liu Chien-pang and Lilian Wu)
