EVA Air named one of 10 safest airlines in world

Taipei, Jan. 7 (CNA) EVA Airways, one of Taiwan's leading international carriers, has been named one of the 10 safest airlines in the world for 2015 by AirlineRatings.com. In a statement posted on its website Tuesday, AirlineRatings.com said Qantas was at the top of the list with its fatality-free record in the jet era. The other nine top-ranked airlines in alphabetical order are Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines. "The AirlineRatings.com top 10 are always at the forefront of safety innovation and launching new planes and these airlines are a byword for excellence," the ratings company said in the statement. The ratings system used by AirlineRatings.com, a global airline safety and product rating review website, evaluates a wide range of factors related to audits from aviation's governing bodies and lead associations as well as government audits, the organization said. AirlineRatings.com's editorial team also examined every airline's operational history, incident records and operational excellence to come up with the top 10 safest airlines list, it said. The rating system has been endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organization under the United Nations. In an earlier safety ranking released by Germany-based Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC), EVA Airways finished fifth on the list, with Air New Zealand taking the top spot. The other eight airlines in the JACDEC rankings were Cathay Pacific (No. 2), Finnair (No. 3), Emirates (No. 4), British Airways (No. 6), Tap Portugal (No. 7), Etihad Airways (No. 8), Air Canada (No. 9), and Qantas (No. 10).
