VERACRUZ, Mexico (AP) -- Relatives of a Mexican journalist and activist say armed men have seized him from his home in the eastern state of Veracruz.
Jorge Sanchez Ordonez said Saturday he saw his father Moises Sanchez Cerezo being taken away by men in civilian clothing who arrived in three vehicles on Friday.
Sanchez Cerezo is the owner of a weekly newspaper called La Union in the municipality of Medellin. The son says he has reported on violence in the city and had received threats. He also received helped form a citizens group meant to defend neighborhoods against crime.
Veracruz has suffered from years of drug gang violence. Ten journalists have been killed in the state since 2010.
