Ex-president Chen's medical parole decision postponed to next week

Taipei, Dec. 31 (CNA) New Year's Eve traffic prevented official documents regarding ex-President Chen Shui-bian's request for medical parole from arriving at Justice Ministry's Agency of Corrections by Wednesday evening, the ministry said, meaning the ailing former leader will not be let out of prison until next week at the earliest. A ten-member team at the Agency of Corrections will deal with the case on the morning of Jan. 5, the first workday of the new year. The documents were sent from Taichung Prison in central Taiwan, where Chen is serving a 20-year-sentence for corruption, to the Agency of Corrections in Taipei in the north. (By Maubo Chang)
