PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Oscar Hammerstein co-wrote several blockbuster Broadway shows at his farm in suburban Philadelphia, including "Oklahoma!" and "The Sound of Music."

But his grandson's plan to turn the site into a museum and theater is hitting a sour note with some Doylestown residents.

Will Hammerstein is asking the zoning board for variances that would allow him to build the $20 million project.

Township supervisors and neighbors oppose the scale of the proposal, saying it's too much development for the suburban parcel. A hearing is set for Jan. 12.

Highland Farm was Oscar Hammerstein's primary residence during his musical partnership with Richard Rodgers. Hammerstein died at the property in 1960.
