Island landing permit for Chinese visitors to begin Thursday

Taipei, Dec. 31 (CNA) Beginning on the first day of 2015, visitors from China will be able to head to the Taiwan-controlled islands of Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu without needing to apply in advance for Taiwan-issued entry permits. The landing permit will allow Chinese visitors to stay on the offshore counties for up to 15 days, though they are still barred from traveling to Taiwan proper without an entry permit. The new measure is expected to bring an additional 70,000 Chinese visitors in total to the island counties each year, according to the National Immigration Agency. (By Elizabeth Hsu)
