Vice premier presides over opening of mobile payment company

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Vice Premier Chang San-cheng presided Tuesday over the formal opening of Taiwan's first mobile payment company, Taiwan Mobile Payment Co., Ltd., lauding it as a milestone in the country's history. The vice premier and former minister of science and technology said the new service will combine into one easy package three things that people would have to return home to grab if they forget them: mobile phones, credit cards and the Easycard stored-value card for transportation. Noting that the company's payment system has been verified by international card companies VISA and MasterCard, meaning it has gone through rigorous testing, Chang said it is proof of the company's capacity in technology. He said both the mobile payment system and third party payment system, for which a bill has just passed preliminary review at the Legislative Yuan on Tuesday, will bring more convenience to the people of Taiwan.
