MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- The Board of Control for Cricket in India says captain Madendra Singh Dhoni has retired from test cricket.

Shortly after India drew the third test with Australia on Tuesday, the BCCI posted on Twitter saying; "MS Dhoni has chosen to retire from Test Cricket with immediate effect."

It said Virat Kohli will captain India in the fourth test starting Jan. 6 in Sydney.

Dhoni made no mention of his intention to retire during a lengthy media conference immediately after Tuesday's match.
