Suicidal man swims back ashore after jumping into Pacific

Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) A man who sought to take his own life in Hualien County swam ashore shortly after jumping into the Pacific earlier this month, police said Monday. Police said they received reports that a man jumped into the Pacific Ocean from Nanbin Park on Dec. 18. They hurried to the scene and found a man who was soaking wet shivering in a corner of the park. The 23-year-old man, surnamed Wang, was suffering from a bout of depression days after arriving in Hualien by train following a quarrel with his mother, according to the police. Police then contacted his mother to bring her son home. The story was not released by the police until Monday.
