KMT calls for apologies over Ting Hsin donation charges

Radio show talk host Clara Chou apparently had the rug pulled out from under her in her charges that a ‘high-ranked national security official’ had told her that President Ma Ying-jeou had accepted off-the-books political contributions from the Ting Hsin Group. Chang Jung-feng, former Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Council, wrote in a Facebook posting that as far as he knows Chou’s allegations are groundless , saying that he never stated that President Ma Ying-jeou of the KMT had received undocumented campaign contributions from Ting Hsin.

KMT spokesman Chen Yi-hsin said Monday that the party has already publicly clarified its position on the matter of campaign contributions on several occasions. He noted that the KMT and party Deputy Secretary-General Lin The-jui had already instituted legal proceedings against Chou. He called on Chou and others in the outside world to stop making baseless assertions that discredit the KMT and President Ma. Otherwise, he said, anyone who offers such groundless allegations shall bear full legal responsibility for their actions.

Chen stressed that any member of the media who has engaged in such rumor-monging owes it to the KMT and President Ma to make a public apology, and should make an apology to the people of Taiwan as well.
