Countdowns set to heat up New Year's Eve around Taiwan

Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) Revelers all around Taiwan will be able to choose from fireworks and concerts to ring in the New Year. Taipei will host the best-known annual countdown in Taiwan at Civic Square outside City Hall, where singers Jam Hsiao and Show Lo and Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin will be among the celebrities to take the stage before the fireworks spectacular. Close to four minutes of bursting fireworks will then launch from nearby Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan, at midnight of December 31. On the other end of the country, Kaohsiung in the south will see major countdown parties at the Dream Mall and theme park E-Da World. The Dream Mall celebration will feature electropop diva Jeannie Hsieh, singer A-Lin, pop-rock band Sodagreen and others, while E-Da World's will include pop singers Jolin Tsai and Hebe Tian and band Magic Power. In neighboring Tainan, a countdown will be held at the High Speed Rail station that features singers Kenji Wu and Tiger Huang and rapper Dog G (Dwagie). Central Taiwan's main celebrations will be in Taichung, at National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sport and Taichung Fengyuan District Stadium. They will feature singers Cyndi Wang and William Wei, as well as a busy Jeannie Hsieh. Millions of locals and visitors are expected to participate in the events around the country.
