Bus lane demolition fulfills promise to the people: Taipei mayor

Taipei, Dec. 28 (CNA) Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je said Sunday on his social media account that the demolishing of the dedicated bus lane on Zhongxiao West Road represents the fulfillment of a promise to the people. Traffic had been resumed on Zhongxiao West Road at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the third day of his office.
Ko stated that his government follows the simple principle of providing the people with what they need, and removing what is deemed to be unneeded. Demolition of the dedicated bus lane near the Taipei Main Station that has lain derelict for the past eight years was the first tangible result of Ko's campaign promises. Ko commended the work crew for completing the work at a cost of NT$4.15 million, well under the NT$6 million budget. Ko noted that despite the appeals made by those against the move, he was not able to see any compelling reason not to remove the bus lane. The Taipei City government strives to listen to and serve the people, and produce tangible results at maximum efficiency, promised Ko. (By Ku Chuan and Ted Chen)
