Taiwanese stewards to work for Chinese budget airline

Taipei, Dec. 28 (CNA) The first batch of Taiwanese flight attendants recruited by Shanghai-based budget Chunqiu Airline will start serving on board next spring.
According to Wang Suyu, general manager of Chunqiu's Taiwan branch, some 60 were selected from among 900 Taiwanese applicants in November. They will receive threes months of training in Shanghai before they officially take to the sky in April at the earliest.
Taiwanese stewards will first serve on cross-Taiwan Strait routes and domestic routes on the mainland.
Chunqiu Airline said it hoped that the hospitality of Taiwanese crew members will help sharpen its competitive edge. Founded in 2004, China's first budget carrier first flew into Kaohsiung in October, 2013 and into Taoyuan in December that same year.
It became the first no-frills airline to fly across the Taiwan Strait after direct air travel between the two sides was launched in December 2008. Chunqiu now operates 11 weekly flights between Taiwan and China -- five on the Taoyuan-Shanghai route, three on the Kaohsiung-Shanghai route and three on the Taoyuan-Shijiazhuang route.
