National Taichung Theater to open Nov. 23

Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) The National Taichung Theater will officially open Nov. 23, when Taiwanese opera company Ming Hwa Yuan will give a charity performance as part of the opening celebration, the Taichung city government said Friday. The performance for senior citizens is being sponsored by Taiwan's Rotary Clubs, Lion Clubs, Kiwanis and Junior Chamber International, said Susan Yeh, director of the city's Cultural Affairs Bureau. Ming Hwa Yuan will next give a ticketed performance Nov. 24, followed by shows by Paper Windmill Theatre Nov. 27-28, Yeh said. There will also be a performance by Taiwan Connection musicians led by violinist Hu Nai-yuan Dec. 7 and another by Ju Percussion Group Dec. 13, she said. Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the theatre consists of a 2,014-seat main hall and two smaller auditoriums.
