President hopeful of expanded Taiwan-Honduras cooperation

Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Extolling Taiwan's long-term diplomatic relations with Honduras, President Ma Ying-jeou said to a visiting official from the Latin American ally Tuesday that he hopes the existing cooperation programs between the two countries can be further expanded. The Republic of China has maintained diplomatic relations with Honduras for 73 years, Ma noted during a meeting at the Presidential Office with Honduran Vice President Lorena Enriqueta Herrera Estevez de Enamorado. Pointing out the many cooperation programs between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, welfare and medical treatment, Ma expressed hope that these programs can be continued and expanded under the consensus of both sides. The vice president of Honduras, one of Taiwan's 22 diplomatic allies, arrived the previous day for a six-day visit at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During her stay, she will attend the Oct. 10 Republic of China National Day celebrations in the plaza in front of the Presidential Office, as well as the National Day party, the ministry said.
