COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) -- A Sri Lankan official says about 150 fishermen drifted into the Myanmar sea because of bad weather and remain stranded.
Fisheries Ministry spokesman Narendra Rajapaksa said Tuesday three boats and 15 fishermen reportedly are now in the custody of the Myanmar coast guard.
He said the fishermen informed Sri Lankan authorities that developing cyclone conditions prevented them from returning home.
Sri Lanka's meteorology department has been criticized for failing to warn fishermen about a bad storm last year. Forty fishermen died and another 30 went missing when their boats got caught in the storm.
