Yo-Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble to perform in Taiwan

Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and his Silk Road Ensemble will come to Taiwan in November for two concerts, one in Taipei and one in Kaohsiung. The multiple Grammy-winning Ma and his ensemble are scheduled to perform at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on Nov. 6 and at the Jhihde Hall in Kaohsiung the following day, according to Management of New Arts, the Taiwan promoter of the concerts. The performances will feature a repertoire that includes "Silk Road Suite," Christopher Adler's "Music for a Royal Palace," Sandeep Das's "Shristi," Gabriela Lena Frank's "。hayraq!: Rough Guide to a Modern Day Tawantinsuyu," Colin Jacobsen's "Atashgah" and Kojiro Umezaki's "Side In Side Out," the organizer said. Ma started The Silk Road Project, a non-profit artistic, cultural and educational organization, in 1998 to promote innovation and learning through the arts. The Silk Road Ensemble was established in 2000 with the participation of internationally renowned performers and composers from more than 20 countries.
