New Immigrants visit historic temple to experience Taiwanese folk cultures



New Taipei City New Immigrant Family Service Center cooperates with Sanchong Volunteer Association to hold the outdoor activity on July 26 to lead one hundred and fifty new immigrants and their families to visit an ancient Hsien Chiang Temple which has over one-hundred years history. They also incensed to pray for good fortune, aiming to let them to know more about local Taiwanese cultures.

Before the baibai and workshop, they appreciated the beauty of building with carvings in the temple. The president of the temple Lee Chien-lung also acted as the narrator to explain the procedure of baibai.

The secretary-general of Sanchong Volunteer Association Chen Hui-chen said the most of programs were held in the past was talents classes, cooking classes and poetry recitation classes. However, the local culture is the most important thing for new immigrants. Thus, she hopes to break through the previous frame for the classes to lead these new immigrants to experience the local cultural activities.

Chen also said many new immigrants feel hard to adapt to this society and become self-contained. We should treat them friendly and create a nice surrounding for them and their offspring.
