CAIRO (AP) -- Father of well-known Libyan activist says armed men abducted his son in the capital Tripoli, which is witnessing ongoing battles between heavily armed militias.
Abdullah Banoun told The Associated Press on Friday that his son Abdel-Moaz was kidnapped a day earlier in Tripoli by two armed men who attacked him in his car. He says he believes that militias that are battling for control over the capital's airport are behind his son's abduction. The airport has been closed for a second week after coming under attack by rival militias.
Abdel-Moaz is known as an outspoken young activist who demands the disbanding of militias and the establishment of a unified army and police, shattered during the eight-month civil war that toppled down Moammar Gadhafi rule.
