Germany-Gibraltar game moved from Bremen after city decides organizers should pay for policing

Germany-Gibraltar match moved amid policing spat

BERLIN (AP) -- The German football federation has moved a European Championship qualifier between Germany and Gibraltar out of Bremen after the city's government decided that organizers should help pay for police deployments at high-risk football matches.

The DFB says the match against Gibraltar on Nov. 14 will now be played in Nuremberg.

This week's decision by the cash-strapped local government in Bremen, the smallest of Germany's 16 states, has drawn strong criticism from the German football league and from federal authorities.

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach said Bremen had broken an agreement with regional governments under which football authorities would "strengthen preventive measures" but would not be charged for policing.
