When residents smelled a foul odor coming from a nearby home, they thought it was a meth lab and called firefighters. But firefighters entered the house only to find it full of garbage, authorities said.
"We got a call from a citizen saying there was some kind of odor coming from an apartment and they wanted us to come by and monitor the air," said Debbi Redfield, spokeswoman for the Bonita fire department told the News-Press in Fort Myers.
The residents of the apartment had recently moved out and left the apartment trashed, filled with garbage and animal feces, Redfield said.
She said there is no indication a meth lab is in the apartment.
