Star Trek auction sells Voyager replica for $132,000

The sequel to Day One of the Star Trek auction did major box office business, with a miniature model of the Starship Voyager selling Friday for $132,000 (euro104,000) _ the highest price yet in the three-day sale.
The plastic and cast resin model, the principal miniature used in filming the "Star Trek: Voyager" television show, is 61-by-24-by-10 inches (155x61x25 centimeters). It was designed by illustrator Rick Sternbach, who was told to come up with something "faster, sleeker, meaner and more powerful" that previous crafts in the Star Trek franchise.
The sale price at Christie's auction house was far beyond the pre-sale estimate of $15,000 (euro11,800) for the replica.
The model sold in the morning session of the auction. A second four-hour afternoon auction was scheduled, with the final day of bidding set for Saturday. From costumes and props to blueprints and furniture, more than 1,000 lots from the archives of CBS Paramount Television Studios went on the block.
Trekkies from around the United States turned out for the rare opportunity to pick up a piece of memorabilia on the 40th anniversary of the original "Star Trek," the television show starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
