Pyeonghang, South Korea, first up on IOC tour of 2014 bid cities

The South Korean city of Pyeongchang will be the first stop on the IOC evaluation commission's tour of the three bid candidates for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee panel will visit Pyeongchang Feb. 14-17, followed by trips to Sochi, Russia, Feb. 20-23, and Salzburg, Austria, March 14-17.
The panel, which includes IOC members and Olympic experts, will issue a report assessing the three bids a month before the vote on the host city in Guatemala City in July 2007.
The candidates must submit detailed bid files to the IOC by Jan. 10.
The IOC said Friday that two commission members have stepped down citing possible conflicts of interest.
Italian sports administrator Luciano Barra, deputy CEO of the organizing committee of the 2006 Turin Winter Games, dropped out because he will be working as a consultant for one of the bids.
German IOC member Walter Troeger quit the panel because one of Salzburg's proposed venues is located in Germany. The bobsled track is in Koenigssee in southeast Bavaria, near the Austrian border.
The IOC said it doesn't plan to replace the two men on the commission, which will now have 16 members. The panel is headed by IOC vice president Chiharu Igaya of Japan.
