SAS says passenger numbers rose 2.4 percent in September

Scandinavian airline group SAS AB said Friday it carried 2.4 percent more passengers in September compared with the same month last year.
The company carried 3.6 million passengers in September, while group traffic including freight operations increased by 5.2 percent, the company said in a statement. Capacity gained 4.9 percent due to strong growth in SAS's Blue1, airBaltic and Spanair businesses.
The group load factor _ or the capacity taken up by passengers and freight _ rose 0.3 percentage points to 73.9 percent.
"The market growth is stable and yield environment has improved, but there are still uncertainties due to the competitive situation and the future development of jet fuel prices," SAS said in a statement.
The travel group operates Scandinavian Airlines, which is the joint carrier of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The group also includes regional airlines Blue1, Spanair, SAS Braathens, Wideroe, airBaltic and Estonian Air, as well as the Rezidor SAS hotel chain.
