Taiwan condemns abduction of hundreds of Nigerian girls

Taipei, May 20 (CNA) Taiwan condemns the abduction of hundreds of girls in Nigeria by the Boko Haram Islamic militant group in recent weeks, Taiwan's government said in a statement Tuesday. In the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the terrorists' threat to sell the schoolgirls into slavery. The international community should work together with the Nigerian government in a bid to help secure the release of the girls as soon as possible, the ministry said. The United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have reportedly offered to help rescue the girls in the West African country. More than 270 schoolgirls were abducted in Chibok and Warabe in northern Nigeria, according to foreign reports. (By Elaine Hou)
