Wilkinson announces his retirement from rugby

TOULON, France (AP) -- World Cup-winning England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson says he will retire from rugby at the end of this season.

Wilkinson had already retired from international duty but continued playing for French club Toulon, which plays in the Heineken Cup final against Saracens in Cardiff on Saturday and the Top 14 final against Castres.

In a statement on Toulon's website posted Monday, Wilkinson says "I sincerely thank you all for everything you have given me and for making these last 17 years something I will never forget."

Wilkinson kicked the drop goal that won the World Cup for England in 2003.
