HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) -- Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, have arrived in Canada on the first leg of a four-day tour.

It is the 17th visit to Canada for the Prince of Wales and the third for the duchess.

Charles and Camilla were greeted by nearly two dozen dignitaries at Halifax's airport on Sunday. They are visiting Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba. The royal couple last visited Canada in 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Queen Elizabeth II is Canada's titular head of state. Canada is a member of the British Commonwealth of former colonies.

Canadians were thrilled when Prince William and his wife, Kate, traveled across the country in 2011 on their first official trip as a married couple.
