BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- River Plate won the Argentine first-division title on Sunday, defeating Quilmes 5-0 at the club's Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.

It was River's first title since 2008, having been relegated to the second division in 2011. Like most countries in Latin America, Argentina divides the season into two halves. San Lorenzo won the first-half title this season.

Fernando Cavenaghi scored two goals and Gabriel Mercado, Cristian Ledesma and Teofilo Gutierrez added the others for River, one of Argentina's biggest clubs.
