Museums to allow free entry to commemorate International Museum Day

Taipei, May 18 (CNA) Over 100 museums and cultural centers across Taiwan are offering free admission on Sunday to mark the International Museum Day. As of Sunday, the number of museums and cultural centers holding events to celebrate International Museum Day has increased from 115 to 171, according to the Ministry of Culture. On Sunday, the visitors can tour 115 museums for free, including National Taiwan Museum, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and Taipei 228 Memorial Museum in Taipei and Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, Yingge Ceramics Museum, and Gold Museum in New Taipei, noted the ministry. The National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, the National Museum of Taiwan History in Tainan, and Hualien County Stone Sculptural Museum are also offering free entry to visitors. Meanwhile, the National Palace Museum is exclusively offering free admission on Sunday to Taiwanese residents. Several museums are also organizing events on Sunday to commemorate the day. The National Museum of History, for instance, will hold outdoor musical performances and a fair to exhibit and sell Taiwanese museum publications and cultural and creative products, the ministry noted. This year's International Museum Day themed "Museum Collections Make Connections" is a reminder of the fact that museums help to foster bonds between visitors, generations, and cultures around the world.
