Malaysian government promises cheaper Internet surfing rates within six months

Malaysia's government is setting up new infrastructure to make Internet surfing cheaper by reducing local reliance on servers in foreign countries such as Singapore and the United States, the national news agency reported Friday.
The creation of the Malaysia Internet Exchange will mean that Internet traffic for Malaysian surfers who visit domestic Web sites will no longer be routed through foreign servers, Energy and Communications Minister Lim Keng Yaik was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency.
