MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Fremantle celebrated captain Matthew Pavlich's 300th match with a 13.18 (96) to 9.10 (64) win over Geelong in the weekend's ninth round of the Australian Football League.
Pavlich booted three goals to lead Fremantle to a win which never looked in doubt after they kicked the first five goals of the match while holding the Cats goalless in the first term. It was the first sign of the form that carried them to last year's final.
Pavlich said "it felt pretty close to our best footy of the year."
Premiership leaders Port Adelaide and Hawthorn had ninth round byes, while Sydney moved to third with a 18.6 (114) to 9.10 (64) win over Essendon. Sydney's Lance Franklin kicked five goals to maintain his five-goal average in matches against the Bombers.
