Thai shares rise on blue-chip buying

Thai shares rose 1.1 percent Thursday, led by gains in key blue chips.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's benchmark SET Index gained 7.76 points to close at 695.72, with trading volume valued at 15.95 billion baht compared with 13.80 billion baht on Wednesday.
"Foreigners weren't active buyers today, but blue chips still made gains. This means the upward trend should continue in the next couple of days," said an analyst at Syrus Securities.
Market sentiment was aided by lower oil prices and general optimism over a new post-coup Cabinet expected to be appointed next week.
Among major gainers, Bangkok Bank PCL gained 2.8 percent to 112 baht, Siam Cement PCL was up 3.4 percent at 244 baht, and construction giant Italian-Thai Development PCL rose 4.9 percent to 6.45 baht.
Mobile phone operator Advanced Info Service PCL, founded by ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, fell 1.1 percent to 87.50 baht after a Thai court accepted a lawsuit seeking to cancel government licenses for his former telecom empire.
