Mirza, Poutchkova advance to quarterfinals at Tashkent Open

Third-seeded Sania Mirza defeated Hana Sromova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 7-5 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open.
Sixth-seeded Olga Poutchkova of Russia beat Olivia Sanchez of France 7-5, 6-1 after a two-hour rain delay to reach the final eight for the fourth consecutive tournament.
The 59th-ranked Mirza, who became the first Indian woman to win a WTA event at the Hyderabad Open last year, broke to lead 6-5 in the second set and closed it out in 1 hour, 34 minutes.
Also, 2004 Olympics doubles champion Sun Tiantian of China defeated Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus 6-4, 6-4; and 17-year-old Belarussian Victoria Azarenka beat Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-4.
"I served better and played better on key points," Azarenka said.
