Malaysian shares higher on local institutional support

Malaysia's key stock index rose 0.5 percent Thursday after late buying of select blue chips by local funds.
The benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 4.83 points to 968.89 in thin trade.
Plantations stocks attracted interest, with IOI Corp up 1.2 percent at 16.30 ringgit and Sime Darby adding 0.9 percent at 5.95.
Among other gainers, national power firm Tenaga surged 2.1 percent to 9.75 ringgit, casino giant Genting rose 1.8 percent to 24.60, Shell Refining climbed 2 percent to 10.40 and Telekom Malaysia gained 0.6 percent at 9.15.
