Ghana downs Japan 1-0 in international friendly

Substitute Haminu Dramani scored a late goal Wednesday to give Ghana a 1-0 win over Japan in an international friendly and deal new coach Ivica Osim his first home defeat.
Dramani scored from close range from Razak Pimpong's right-wing cross in the 73rd minute at Yokohama's Nissan Stadium, while Japan, playing without most of its European-based players, squandered several opportunities.
Wednesday's loss to the Black Stars was Japan's first at home under Bosnian-born Osim, who replaced Brazilian Zico as head coach after Japan bowed out of the World Cup in the first round.
"I expected a tough game tonight but actually thought we were the better team, and to lose like this is a real shame," Osim said. "I am very disappointed."
Japan defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in a friendly on Aug. 9 in Osim's first match as coach, followed by a 2-0 win over Yemen on Aug. 16. Japan lost 1-0 away to Saudi Arabia on Sept. 3.
On Sept. 6, Japan eked out a 1-0 win over Yemen in the Yemen city of San'a, booking their spot at next year's Asian Cup to be jointly hosted by Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Ghana was the only African nation to advance past the group phase at the World Cup in Germany.
