Thai shares rise on late blue-chip rally

Thai shares rose 0.9 percent Wednesday led by a late rally in blue chips.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's benchmark SET Index gained 6.12 points to close at 687.96, with trading volume valued at 13.80 billion baht compared with 12.22 billion baht on Tuesday.
Until the Cabinet of newly appointed interim Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont is announced in the next few days, market movement can be expected to be limited, said analysts, although investors tend to be bullish.
Foreigners bought shares in the afternoon, as investors started to get a better picture of (Surayud's) economic team," says Poramet Tongbua, head of research at TISCO Securities.
Oil conglomerate PTT PCL rose 0.9 percent to 212 baht on lower oil prices, while Bangkok Bank PCL surged 4.8 percent to 109 baht and Siam Commercial Bank jumped 3.4 percent to 61 baht. Construction giant Italian-Thai Development PCL leaped 11 percent to 6.15 baht.
