U.S. dollar up, gold down in European morning trading

The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday morning. Gold fell.
The euro traded at US$1.2696, down from US$1.2727 late Tuesday in New York.

Gold traded in London at US$578.50, down from US$581.80 late Monday.
In Zurich, gold traded at US$578.15, down from US$582.05.
Gold fell US$16.30 in Hong Kong to US$576.60.
Silver opened in London at US$11.00 per troy ounce, unchanged.
