Madrid aims to sign Boca Juniors midfielder

Real Madrid reportedly aims to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago during the next transfer window in January.
Madrid representative Franco Baldini will reportedly arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to begin negotiations with Boca, which is demanding euro20 million (US$25.5 million), sports daily Marca said Wednesday.
"I'm proud that one of the world's best clubs is keen to have me in its team. It means that I'm doing OK and it gives me extra motivation to maintain my form. It would be a dream to play for Real Madrid," Gago told the newspaper on Wednesday.
Gago said the Spanish league was "great," adding he "would love" to play there.
"It has really good players, including (Atletico Madrid's Sergio) Aguero, who has adapted very quickly and will be one of the stars of the championship," Gago said.
Gago's skills have led to comparisons with former Argentina midfielder Fernando Redondo, who won the European Champions League in 1998 and 2000 with Madrid.
The 20-year-old Gago scored the first goal of his career in the Argentine league last Sunday, when Boca beat Velez Sarsfield 3-2.
