Kim Soo Hyun cries, says goodbye to Taiwanese fans

Taipei, March 22 (CNA) South Korean actor and singer Kim Soo Hyun, who shot to international fame with his role in the hit TV series "My Love From the Star," cried Saturday when he said goodbye to his passionate Taiwanese fans. During a two-hour fan meeting in Taipei, the 26-year-old entertainer sang five songs, decorated a cake for a lucky fan whose birthday fell on that day and chose several fans to take pictures with him. Kim showed up on stage in a tight fit black suit and sang "Dreaming" from the 2011 TV series "Dream High," followed by fans' high-pitched cheers. When he sang the last song, "In Front of Your House" from the soundtrack of the popular drama, Kim got emotional and started to choke with sobs. "I'm very thankful for your support, which gives me strength to carry on," he said with tears in his eyes. "It's really a pity that the meeting has come to an end. I'm really reluctant to leave but I will look forward to our next meeting." Kim's tearful thanks touched the 3,100 fans at the event; many of them also shed tears with him, while cheering for him at the same time. The fan meeting, dubbed "1st Memories in Taiwan," is part of Kim's promotional Asian tour that kicked off in Seoul in mid-March and will take him to eight cities in six countries. Kim arrived in Taiwan on Friday, and stayed here for only 32 hours before departing for Shanghai, the next leg of the Asian tour. The South Korean star became a household name in South Korea in 2011 after he starred in the teen drama "Dream High," and shot to international fame after he played an alien in "My Love From the Star." The drama is a romantic comedy about an alien who lands on Earth and falls in love with a South Korean actress, played by Jun Ji Hyun. The series has gained high viewership ratings in South Korea, China and Taiwan and has been viewed 14.5 billion times on China's leading video website iqiyi.com since it debuted in December.
