Taiwan ranks 3rd, 4th in 2014 baking competition

Taipei, March 14 (CNA) Two bakers from Taiwan have finished third and fourth in the 2014 Bakery Masters competition held March 8-12 in France. Lin Kun-wei, 32, ranked third in the Viennese pastry category, with a vanilla pineapple brioche made from pineapples from Guanmiao in Tainan and a honey caramel brioche using preserved orange peel. Huang Wei-hsun, 37, ranked fourth place in the artistic piece category, with a piece created with Taiwanese and Buddhist elements. Both Lin and Huang were members of the Taiwanese team competing in the 2012 Bakery World Cup, in which the country finished third. During a news conference held in Taipei Friday upon their return, Lin said he was very happy to have had the chance to compete with top bakers from other countries, despite failing to gain the Bakery Master title. "I've done my best. I'm most happy that I surpassed my 2012 effort," he said. Huang, meanwhile, described the experience as a "very unusual challenge." The Bakery Masters is held every four years at the Europain baking industry fair, bringing together the nine finalist teams from the Louis Lesaffre Cup and the three winning teams from the previous Bakery World Cup. The competition is divided into three categories: bread, Viennese pastry and artistic piece. In 2010, Taiwan's Wu Pao-chun won the Bakery Master title for the bread category. (By Angela Tsai and Y.F.
