Hon Hai to create 15,000 jobs in Taiwan

In a visit to National Taiwan University for a Hon Hai (2317) recruitment presentation on Thursday, Hon Hai Group vice-president Lu Fang-ming talked about Hon Hai’s massive recruitment plans and devotion to 4G network expansion. According to Lu, the group will recruit 15,000 engineers in Taiwan and lay groundwork for high-speed internet implementation. In addition, the group will roll out a brand new program to assist young entrepreneurs.

The new hires come as Hon Hai prepares to launch high-speed fourth-generation mobile services in Taiwan. According to Lu, the group plans to launch its 4G network next year and has diversified into software, telecom, and retail to spur growth.

Lu compared Apple to traditional mobile phone manufactures Motorola and Nokia. In the past, traditional mobile phone manufacturers had no idea who their customers were. Now, users register accounts before using mobile devices such as Apple’s iphone which allow manufacturers to collect and control user information, provide users with customized services, and prepare for tomorrow’s information wars.

In the past, Hon Hai’s elite management program accepted 500-600 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral candidates. However, this year the group’s is recruiting 5,000, over ten times previous targets, due to an urgent need for large numbers of mid/upper level management and young talent.

In addition to widely recruiting engineers, Hon Hai is also implementing a program to provide a new platform for ambitious young entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams of business ownership.

Hon Hai closed at NT$85.50 Friday, down NT$0.60 (-0.70%).
