Security boosted as Jamaica rapper's trial ending

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) -- Jamaican authorities have blocked off streets around the island's supreme court as a high-profile murder trial for dancehall reggae star Vybz Kartel winds down.

Police cordoned off streets in downtown Kingston early Thursday in anticipation of the case going to the jury. They say they want to prevent any possible disruptions by the entertainer's fans.

The judge is wrapping up his summation in the murder trial of Kartel, one of Jamaica's biggest dancehall performers. He is known for innovative, but often violent, X-rated lyrics.

Kartel and four co-defendants were charged in October 2011 with the slaying of Clive "Lizard" Williams. Authorities allege that Williams was beaten to death at Kartel's home in August that year. The body has never been found.

The five have pleaded not guilty.
